Bio

For more than a decade John Holl, an award-winning journalist, has covered the beer industry traveling the globe and in search of the best brewers and flavors. He is the author of The American Craft Beer Cookbook, which captures the best of the brewery and brewpub menus. The 155 recipes—chosen to pair amazingly well with beer—cover everything from breakfast to dessert, with vegetarian and gluten-free options, along with soups, seafood, and more.

Having visited more than 1,000 breweries and brewpubs in the United States and around the world, John has met the people behind the brew, profiled his favorites, and included itineraries for the best road trips to great beer cities such as San Diego, Denver, Boston, and Milwaukee.

 He is also the author of Dishing Up New Jersey a unique cookbook celebrating the foods, flavors, cultures, and traditions of the Garden State. These 150 recipes include dishes featuring New Jersey’s own produce — tomatoes, corn, cranberries, blueberries, apples — along with deep-fried boardwalk treats, late-night diner bites, and recipes contributed by casinos, bison and dairy farms, food trucks, old-school delis, famous bakeries, and more.JohnGlass

 Since 2013 John has served as editor of All About Beer Magazine, the country’s oldest and best selling consumer beer magazine. He’s the host of the Two Beers In podcast, and a syndicated newspaper columnist.

 He’s worked for the New York Times, Newark Star-Ledger, and the Indianapolis Star and his work has appeared in The Wall Street Journal, the Washington Post, Beverage World and Wine Enthusiast among many others. His earlier books include Massachusetts Breweries and Indiana Breweries. Previously, he served as news editor and columnist of The Ale Street News and associate editor of Beer Connoisseur Magazine.

 John contributed a dozen entries to the critically acclaimed Oxford Companion to Beer and was featured in the New York Times 36 Hours: 150 Weekends in the USA and Canada, published by Taschen. He also contributed to Savoring Gotham, a book that chronicles the history of New York’s food traditions.

An international beer judge, John delivered the keynote address at the 2014 New Zealand’s Brewers Guild Awards dinner, served as a judge for the 2014 and 2015 Great American Beer Festival and as a finalist judge for the 2010 – 2015 Samuel Adams Long Shot Competition. He has also judged a number of other beer competitions including the 2016 International Beer Challenge.

In 2014 he won first place in the beer and food writing category by the North American Guild of Beer Writers.

John regularly hosts beer dinners and presents lectures on a variety of beer topics. Always in search of a new place to visit, a different beer to try and interesting people to meet, he is available for writing assignments, events, or interviews.
